Hammurabi's code, the crime-stopper of Mesopotamia
Hammurabi's Code, was a huge Stone Pillar, with laws of Mesopotamia carved into it. Hammurabi was a very Strict ruler. Here are some examples of his laws:
If a son is to strike his father, the sons hand will be cut off.
If a man accuses someone of putting a death spell on him, and has no proof, he will be put to death.
If one accuses one of stealing, the one being accused will be plunged into the sacred river, if he comes out alive, he gets the accusers House, and if he dies, the Accuser gets the Accused ones House.
Hammurabi was a very Strict man. He was famous for making one of the first sets of laws of Mesopotamia. He was also one of the first Babylonian Kings. Most people did not agree with Hammurabi's rules, but In the end, it stopped a lot of Criminal Activity. Now, if you were Hammurabi, what would you do? Surely you would be less harsh! But, as written, it was said that Hammurabi received his rules from the Mesopotamian Sun god! Not many believe this, but it could be true! Do you Believe? Who knows! Mesopotamian time was one whacked up Time Zone. Lower, you see a picture of Hammurabi's Code. Its at least 8 Feet tall. On Top of the Stone Pillar, there is a picture of Hammurabi receiving the Mesopotamian laws from the Sun God. This stone pillar of laws now only has 1 copy in existence, other than the copies made. A copy made by the Mesopotamian's themselves lies below in a museum. The Museum is located in Paris, so next time you go there, be sure to stop at the Louvre Museum to get a quick glimpse at this fantastic pillar! [SHOWN BELOW]
